In this photograph, you see some of the tools that we have made for the removal of the hair from the hide. If you notice, you will see one of the tools was made from the bone of a moose, actually the front canon bone of a moose, and with the notches is an excellent tool from removing the hair from the hide. This type of bone tool was used and is used by the Indigenous people of North America for the same reason we are using it. Unfortunately, both of these tools walked away with people who were here to learn and help. They did not ask permission if they could take this tool, they just felt some sense of entitlement to do so without asking. The only reason that I make this comment is not to chastise, but to point out over the years, many historical and culturally important artifacts have left the Ranch in this same manner. Examples being: Arrow Heads, Spear points, Stone axes, Ancient bows and arrows, mortar and pestle used by historical medicine man given as a gift. I have no understanding why people feel a sense of entitlement to take articles such as these. It boggles the mind, I would like nothing better than to have been able to show and share the historical past with others who come to the Ranch.
